Is it legal to put a hold on a cash deposit or payroll check?

I went to the bank on a friday and cashed my paycheck(even though its through my bank anyway). I then asked to deposit 50 in cash because they always put a hold when i deposit my check outright. Well now they put a hold on my cash until monday and my car payment bounced so i have an overdraft fee now also. WHAT THE HELL!!! The banks know just how to get my money.

Yes, they don't have to give you any money today, but they'll have 100 available on monday (the next business day)

Government Regulation CC, says banks can place holds on checks. The first 100 to be available the next day. Local checks (by routing number not location, banks can be next door but still non-local) Are to be available in 2 business days unless an expection is made, if it's over 5,000 then the first 5000 is available in 2 days the rest in 7. NON LOCAL checks are different they are the first 5k in 5 days the rest in 11. They are doing this for your protection as well, you would hate to spend 30k and then find out a week later the check was bad.
Reply:if you have an account with this bank they should not be doing this to you ,you need to go to the bank carry that over draft charge and your deposit slip with you tell her you feel they should pay this that your money was in there don't let them get away with this call the main branch if you have to you are in the rights not them and yes they make big bucks every day off people that works hard for their money
