How long does somebody have to cash a check?

I know there are several outstanding checks from my bank account. Some of them are several years old. Is there a time limit that a person has to cash a check? I don't know the check numbers so I can't put a stop payment on them.

How long does somebody have to cash a check?
The best answer to this is to ask your bank.

My bank will only honor a check up to 1 yr after it is dated. I think that is the standard rule, but each bank may be different.
Reply:Standard is 90 days. Some banks will honor checks beyond that, bust most wiil not...

Why is the company short of cash, can they sustain itself and how should they handle the situation?

LPP soon started receiving requests for the kits from all over the country, as word spread about their availability. Even without advertising, LPP was able to sell its full inventory every month. However, the company was becoming financially strained. Nancy and Sue had about $100,000 in savings, and they invested about half that amount initially. They believed that this venture would allow them to make money. However, at the present time, only about $30,000 of the cash remains, and the company is constantly short of cash.

Nancy Ginavan has come to you for advice. She does not understand why the company is having cash flow problems. She and Sue have not even been withdrawing salaries. However, they have rented a local building and have hired two more full-time workers to help them cope with the increasing demand. They do not think they could handle the demand without this additional help.

Nancy is also worried that the cash problems mean that the company may not be able to support itself. She has prepared the cash budget shown on the next page. All seminar customers pay for their products in full at the time of purchase. In addition, several large companies have ordered the kits for use by employees who work in remote sites. They have requested credit terms and have been allowed to pay in the month following the sale. These large purchasers amount to about 25% of the sales at the present time. LPP purchases the materials for the kits about 2 months ahead of time. Nancy and Sue are considering slowing the growth of the company by simply purchasing less materials, which will mean selling fewer kits.

The workers are paid in cash weekly. Nancy and Sue need about $15,000 cash on hand at the beginning of the month to pay for purchases of raw materials. Right now they have been using cash from their savings, but as noted, only $30,000 is right.

Why is the company short of cash, can they sustain itself and how should they handle the situation?
they will have to purchase less, bcz they are buying 2 months aheda and being paid (75% of the time) 2 months later

so buy less, increase margins. basically growth is going to have to be alot slower.

or they can get an overdraft/credit facility from the bank that will sustain them as when they run out of cash

How is it that years ago, loan sharks used to get arrested for cash advances and now banks blatantly do it?

I realise that loan sharks used or still break legs to get their money but banks that participate in cash advances are no better, they charge $20 to every hundred same as loans sharks used to or still do but yet the banks are allowed to do this without any repercussions! I have a friend that went for a payday loan to get ahead and he's worse off now, reaaly sad how the system stomps the little guy.

How is it that years ago, loan sharks used to get arrested for cash advances and now banks blatantly do it?
Payday advances really are scum...

They get away with it, because there are laws they abide by, and most of them max out the amount of interest and fees they are allowed to charge.

People need to learn to read the fine print....
Reply:I agree with you. I think that pay day advances should be against the law completely. Credit cards are bad enough. They (credit cards) should not be obtainable until the age of at least 25, if ever, lol.
Reply:because our elected officals are in bed with the banking industry. They're allowed to charge these big interest rates- give loans to poor credit risks and then be bailed out by s%26amp;l with our tax dollars.....it makes me ill

On the general ledger: debit to cash account and credit to revenue account.

Where can I get an auto refinance loan that will give me extra cash over and above the payoff for my car?

I want to do some extra work on my car to enhance it's value and condition, rather than just trade up. I like my car and I know what I've got into it already. I don't want to get another used car--something that I have to start all over learning about, in terms of its mechanical needs. I just want to make my current car better, with the extra cash imbedded in the refinance.

Where can I get an auto refinance loan that will give me extra cash over and above the payoff for my car?
you can get cash above the payoff for your car if you have enough equity to meet the LTV guidelines for the bank, and still have room. Check with all the local banks to see what their guidelines are, and what they would lend on your car.
Reply:No bank is going to loan you more than the fair market value of your car. Unless your payoff is really low and the car's value is much higher, it's not going to happen.
Reply:You cant, but good luck anyway
Reply:It's highly unlikely that you can get a loan for more than what your car is worth.... So it depends on how much you have left on your current loan..... and how much your car is worth.

Can I cash my tax refund even though I've neglected to fill out form 8453?

They sent me the check? Can I cash it with impunity? I know that eventually I WILL have to fill out 8453, but I dont want to wait to feel "safe" that its made it through the US Postal Service to cash my check.

Yes, you can cash the check - but sign the 8453 and send it in.

How much money do you get for each Leave day that you cash in?

I am getting chaptered out of the Army and want to cash in my leave days. Does anyone know exactly how to do that or where I can find more information on the subject. I want to know what the regulation says because I know i've heard a couple of things about it but not too sure who to believe.

How much money do you get for each Leave day that you cash in?
You have to read your contract of employment for that. It should be spelt out there. It would also depend on your last drawn salary. Not everyone belongs to the same salary scheme or plan.

How Do I Raise Enough Cash To Buy A Business?

Hi, I have been working at a place for the last few years and now the owners have put it up for sale.

It is a very successful business and I'm sure with my experience and contacts in the industry I could continue to make a success of it, building on existing and new customers.

My only problem is that I'm in my mid-20's, not got a great deal of cash, and need £5 million?????

Is there any hope of me being able to do such a thing and if so through who and how?

How Do I Raise Enough Cash To Buy A Business?
First, you have to put together a detailed business plan showing, that in fact, you can successfully run this company. Just because the company is successful, doesn't mean it will automatically remain that way with change in ownership. Talk to the present owner(s) and then to your fellow employees about your interests and establish support of your plans for both moral and possible financial. The present owner(s) can direct you in the right direction as well as possibly help financially and stay aboard until you understand the ins and outs and responsibilities of running this company.

How do you make immediate cash via the Internet, on a low budget?

So far, there is only ONE thing that resulted in sales, and it did not cost me even one penny. That is AFFILIATE MARKETING via FFA search engine submissions.

I received checks for three sales generated through Free-For-All web site submissions. How can I intentionally duplicate these results geometrically by about a factor of 10, 100, or 1,000?

FYI, I'm a very experienced salesperson, with an excellent web site. It's new, so it's in the Google sandbox. And yes, it only has about 400 links. Therefore, let's not discuss SEO or anything that's related to long-term LINKS or LINKING strategy here. My question is STRICTLY about making IMMEDIATE SALES via the web. (I also own excellent weight loss e-book products and offer online training programs because I am a Certified Lifestyle %26amp; Weight Management Consultant.)

I already did PPC, YSM, expired domain traffic, and eBay auctions. All these fail, cost me cash, with no sale or inquiry, just seller fees to pay these vendors.

Help!

How do you make immediate cash via the Internet, on a low budget?

Reply:I love this kind of questions... Because a lot of people just want traffic, but forget about the real goal of thier business which is MAKE MONEY...

I'm going to give you some of the best ways to generate sales, not just traffic. Well, of course you need traffic, but target traffic which is people in the market for services or products like yours.

Would help me a lot to know what are you selling or promoting online. But, is ok... I going to give you some tips that can work with almost any kind of products or service. Are you ready? let's beging....

Affiliate Marketing 101

Top Free Traffic Exchange Programs: The top 3 are: http://www.trafficswarm.com/go.cgi?49576... this one is an excellent program that can bring quality traffic to your site, and generate sales. You can promote up to 10 URLs for free. You can put the clicking page as your homepage on your browser, just click on as many sites as you can, to build a good amount of traffic credits for you. It works instantly. TIP: Make sure your site don't take more than 15 seconds to load. The faster the the better.

STRATEGY: This traffic generator is view by real people, and they don't let you use all 10 ads to promote 1 URL. Well, this is the way to cheat that rule, at the end of your web site URL or affiliate link you are going to ad this code: %26amp;ref=any_number replace the (any_number) with anything this will make them think you promoting different affiliate IDs.

http://www.ts25.com/index.jsp?ref=cogni3... this one another easy to use traffic exchange program, that let you promote 3 URLs for free. One is automatic, the other 2, you need to login to set how many credits you want to use for each of them. TIP: Make sure your site don't take more than 10 seconds to load, because their viewing clock is for only 15 seconds. TIP 2: Don't open more than one accunt because they use tracking software, and if they catch you they will delete your account without notice. Is a way to cheat the system, sign up for my yahoo group for this one and more trick and tips.

STRATEGY: I will recommend to use a entry or doorway page, design with text only, with a good pre-sell copy and a link to your site or affiliate partner. Because a small text only site will load in less than 2 seconds, and your visitors have time to read and visit the main site...

http://www.instantbuzz.com/r/?cogni360/ this software is very powerful, because it can post your ad in 100's of computer screans. This is a Toolbar ad system can generate traffic by doing what you always do on the Internet, Surf... And it can be use while using the the other 2 traffic programs. And it's FREE.

STRATEGY: There are many techniques but one the one that work pretty good is, "The Question Title Ad". This is just a simple way to make your ad viewers curiose enaugh to click on it.

TIP: Remember to test, test, test, and continue testing until you find winner ads.

Midsize Directories and Search Engine Sponsorships: This is a really cheap way to do PPC marketing. And I know you fail before, but sometimes is all about the lack of information and training. Just go to ExactSeek (http://www.exactseek.com/ ) They have PPC rate starting at $12.00 for 1 URl and 1 keyword and they put your ad on the top 10 sponsor spots on 140 Directories and Search Engines for 3 Months. Before signing up for look for the best keywords using their free Overture keyword search. This method works very good, It generate sales for me every single month...

THE REAL SECRET: Top affiliate marketer will never send direct traffic to the affiliate partners. Because if they don't buy anything, and months later they go to the site on a different computer and make a purchase, you will not get credit for it... And you will lost that visitor forever.

So, create a newsletter and try to build your own list. Another tactic to make sales and upsell the other affiliates, is by creating your own offers or deals, for ex. you can offer a Cash Back Rebate, make sure you tell you visitor to send you a copy of the order confirmation to your email so, you can send them their rebate money after 45 days (depending on the return policy of the company, and off course after you get paid).

If you don't want give some of your commission away, you can increase the value of the your product by given away a Free Bonus like: Free Ebook, Free Report, Free Research Article, you get the idea. If you want some free ebooks that you can give away for free just send me a email at LuisGalarzaBiz @ Yahoo .com

The other secret of super affiliates is also having a marketing plan to build your own affiliate downline. Is not dificult, but takes time if you don't have the right tools, supprot, and training. If you want access to a lot of this tools please send me a email requesting an invitation to my New Yahoo forum (only by invitation) where you can access a full library of articles, reports, advice, and quick tips on Affiliate Marketing, List Building, Traffic Building, SEO, Blogging, Podcasting, RSS, and more... All these site can give you the tools and training that you need to increase sales and build your downline...

Now about SEO, this is my tip get a free blog form http://www.blogger.com/ and write about your industry, business stories, dialy stuff on the office, make it fun and submit the blog to the Search Engines. SE love blogs, and for that reason blogs can get faster and better possitions than regular sites. Don't forget to ad your web site links to your blog.

Reply:It sounds like you're jumping around too much. This is one of the top reasons people fail in making money onling. You need to choose one company or system that has a good payment plan with a possibility for huge expansion, and a good product that many people will want, (I'm sure you are already a member of a bunch of them) and work that one opportunity faithfully over a space of several months. The income WILL start to flow if you stick with it.

One of the characteristics of internet income is that it takes a certain amount of time and effort to get the ball rolling. You were probably on the very brink of significant profits each time you turned your attention to something else.

Check the webpage below for more ideas, and some really solid training.
Reply:Everybody says money is in the list. You need to develop a opt-in list that you can constantly go back to for more selling.

You say you are expert in physical fitness area. Probably you can start a niche article directories site and get Adsense on it. You can be paid very well with Adsense.
Reply:To sell your own product immediately:

Do Joint Venture with newsletter/ezines publisher in your niche. You have to set up an affiliate program or you can join an affiliate network where you can list your products.

Or you can offer free content to ezines publisher in retun that they give you a chance to send your promotion email or ad with it.

Of course you will need to build your own list. First create a name squeeze page like this: http://www.mytrafficstrategies.ws

Get an autoresponder account with the redirection ability then you redirect the subscriber to your sales letter. Do follow up with emails.

Another way to generate quick cash and traffic is to join legitimate autosurf programs only.

Can you cash a check at the bank where the check was written from?

I need to cash a check and I don't have an account at this particular bank but the check was written from this particular bank. Will they cash my check?

Can you cash a check at the bank where the check was written from?
Yes, as long as you have proper identification.
Reply:Yes you can. All you have to do is go to the teller at that particular bank and they will look at the check and see if there are available funds in that account. Next the teller will ask you for 2 forms of ID and they'll ask you to ink your thumb on an ink pad and ask you to put your thumb print on the check. Lastly, they'll ask you if you want a bank account here and etc, and give you the $ and reciept. It'll only take like 4-5 minutes.
Reply:yeah
Reply:yes, as long as you have ID
Reply:Yep as long as you have ID if it is for a lot they may ask for a thumb print. No big deal
Reply:yes.
Reply:YES!
Reply:Yes, you can almost always cash a check at the bank the check is from. Even if YOU do not have an account there, the person who gave you the check does have one. As long as you have ID, you should be good to go.

You may wanna call the bank to find out what you need, before you waste the time to go there. I tried to cash a check that my uncle sent me, at his bank since i didn't have an account anywhere. And I needed two forms of ID, and my driver's license and a state ID would not work, they said it was basically the same ID. They wanted like a passport and some other stuff that I didn't have. Another time, the bank (same bank, different branch in a different state) said I had to open an account before they would cash it. I had to send the check back both times. So call to be sure.

Should i take cash on holiday or travellers cheques or just my bank card?

I am taking £580. I thought i would take the £80 in cash (mixed sterling and YTL) and the rest in travellers cheques. But my friend is just taking her bank card and drawing money out when she is there. I am reluctant to do this in case i lose my bank card or incase its stolen or the machine swallows it.

Do places (in Turkey specifically) charge alot of commission for travellers cheques?

How do you think i should take my money?

Should i take cash on holiday or travellers cheques or just my bank card?
if you take travellers cheques, it's best to get the hotel to change them over before you go out because from experience it's been a nightmare changing them.

Our card got swallowed by the atm machine! on the last day of the holiday! so i wouldn't advise this!

Money is an easy way to be honest. If you're in tourist areas, a lot of places actually list the prices of things in pounds, so that's no problem.

If i were you, which i will be wednesday! take a mixture of YTL and GBP. You can always change it over out there.

the good thing about travaller cheques is that if you don't spend them, you can change them back to english. or, if you lose them, you'll get your money back and the person with the cheque can't spend it unless they have your ID and signature.

Enjoy Your Holiday.
Reply:In Turkey I found it best to have local cash which is easy to obtail with a 4 number pin from ATM's. Banks did not charge commission on cashing traveler's checks, but many merchants would not take them. My advice, take only cash needed for tipping, your card and some traveler's checks safely locked in hotel safe. Things in rooms may get stolen even in top rate hotels. Keep your card in an inside vest pocket preferable zipped along with your identification. If you use a bag be sure it is across your neck and sholder with steel cable strap. Danger areas are Topkapi palace, any bazaar and late at night.
Reply:From experience, Travelers Cheques are not as widely accepted as the issuers tell you. In some countries they directed us to the bank, and if it's a public holiday or weekend when you need to cash a cheque, you are out of luck. Also, Travelers cheques cost a percentage of the total amount purchase.

I take some cash with me, and keep it in different areas, but I rely mostly on my ATM card. I've also found that the fee my bank charges me for the transaction is lower than the fee I'd pay to a money changer.

Good luck!

Reply:To be honest, I would rather take cash, and change it when i get there......generally getting a better rate of exchange. If you do intend to use your card, then check what your banks rates are!!! Some will only give you what the exchange rate is in the U.K., and they will also charge a fee, and interest too!!! Worth checking this out first, as it can sometimes cost you a lot of money to use your card abroad.
Reply:I always take cash when I go on holiday and have a bank card in case. Banks charge you whenever you use it abroad so its not advisable to have this as your main source. My friend always takes travellers cheques so I guess its really up to you. Check the lonely planet website for details on travellers cheques and money advice.

Wich Interest rate have to be used to calculate current value of a company 10 years cash flow?

Im in the process of determination of the value of a company in south america, i have the cash flow projection, but i haven't an interest rate to discount the projected cash generated.

Wich Interest rate have to be used to calculate current value of a company 10 years cash flow?
The interest rate you use to discount that cash flow is not a fixed variable. It is dependent upon the companies risk profile and must be assessed on an individual basis. You will be using the rate to discount the investment against risk free investments, so start with what the current t-bill is yielding and add premium to that dependent upon your particular investments risk profile.

My example would be KO, it is a bellwether global company but still receives an 8% discount by my calculation, as to properly offer margin of safety.

The nearest auto junkyard will probably pay a little for it.

How can I pay for merchandise online with cash?

Can anyone please tell me how I can download retail software If I only have cash? I would be willing to pay for the software if they would only accept greenbacks. However, most companies will not even talk to you if your not using a credit card, check, money order. Some of us still prefer to pay with cash! The software I want to download is only available online so please don't tell me to visit the local software store.

How can I pay for merchandise online with cash?
Money order = cash.
Reply:What, you mean you didn't get a Cash Upload Port on your computer?

The thing is, people who pay cash are rather in the minority these days. Crime is far too prevalent in the US to encourage carrying a lot of cash, so most people carry only a little and use credit cards for the rest -- after all, if someone mugs you and takes your wallet, you can call and get your card shut off, and then request investigation on charges you didn't make. But, any cash you might have had is long gone and no way back. At this point, most people insisting on using cash have ulterior motives, like hiding their identity, often due to crime, or laundering money; or distributing counterfeit currency. This adds risk to any business dealing with larger amounts of cash, so they have less incentive to do so.

When credit card use wasn't as widespread, businesses were more likely to accept checks, sometimes wire transfers, and COD. However, since the majority prefer to use more secure and faster methods of payment for mailorder or for larger transactions, there's very little demand for businesses to devote extra resources to working out methods of processing these transactions; and two of the three cause delays in processing, which ties up inventory and thus adds more cost to the business again. I can't recall the last time I heard of a delivery company offering COD, either -- that's a large burden of responsibility and extra time to add to the local delivery person.

In short -- accepting "cash" transactions for mailorder adds extra expense and risk for the business, at the risk of losing only a miniscule amount of (generally risky) business. Thus, probably a poor business decision to accept it.

The closest payment method would be Paypal, since that uses money from your bank account directly in payment -- but I would tend to assume that whatever the issues you have using checks, money orders, and credit cards are, would also apply to Paypal, since it really just does the same thing.
Reply:Get a pre-paid credit card. They load it with however much you put on it. Most store like WalMart have them for purchase.
Reply:Well unless the vendor will allow you to mail them cash which I would never recommend sending cash through the mail, your only other two options that I can think of are to see if they would accept a wire transfer. If so, then many local supermarkets can do that for you. If not, then a money order is about you only other option without setting up a pay-pal account.

Hey, you might look into purchasing a Visa gift card and using that.

Good Luck
Reply:Won't they accept PayPal? You can set up a savings account to use strictly for PayPal, keep it loaded with a specific amount of cash, and use it whenever you want to pay for something with cash rather than a check or credit card.
Reply:It's 2007, get a bank account dude....

After a candidate drops out of a race, what does their campign do with their leftover cash?

After an American political candidate drops out of a race and pays all of the campaign's outstanding debts and liabilities, there's a possibility that the campaign has cash remaining. Surely the candidate cannot keep the cash.

Are there restrictions on what the campaign may do with the remaining cash?

Perhaps donate to their political party, give to another candidate, donate to a non-profit organization, etc.?

Please include citations if possible. Thanks.

After a candidate drops out of a race, what does their campign do with their leftover cash?
If it is a local, state, or federal campaign, the rules and laws change, except for one very common factor. In almost all cases, or all that I could find on the web, they can always save the money for their next campaign. If a Senator runs for president, loses, then they can use it for their next re-election campaign.

Most states allow it to be donated to the same party or candidates of the same party, as Obama did after his run for Senator ... which you can google and read from old USA or CNN or even his own biography. Which is why he has so much political clout ...as is the reason a lot of candidates have so much clout. It becomes a "power club" of candidates helping candidates.

Federal laws are a bit more specific, but have so many loop-holes, that a big party for the losing candidates supporters and large personal loans generally eat up any left-overs, while giving the candidate a good base for their next campaign.
Reply:According to campaign finance law, they can either return it to the donors, use it for a future campaign, or use it to start a political action committee.
Reply:after that candidate's expenses are paid, whatever is left over goes to their national parties.

and no, they can NEVER keep the money. every penny must be accounted for.

that's why they must file reports with the federal elections commissions (fec).

Will a bank cash in a bag of exsactly 1,000 pennies I counted?

I have rolled more then $200 dollars of quarters, dimes and nickels. I didn't have any penny wrappers so I counted them and put them in to bags of 1000. Will the bank cash in all of this money?

Will a bank cash in a bag of exsactly 1,000 pennies I counted?
yes they just put it in a machine and the machine double counts then they give it to you in cash!!! that is a lot of pennies, you must be a good saver!
Reply:No. They will accept the other coins you have wrapped, but they will not take in the pennies because no one is going to sit there and process them to be rolled.

They may be able to give you some penny-wrappers, but not enough, no doubt. You will have to purchase them at the office supply store.

You can also call around and find a change-counting machine at the front of a grocery store. They're all over the place where I live. You dump the lose change in and it gives you paper money in exchange.
Reply:Some banks charge a service fee.

Most banks won't give you the time of day if you don't have an account with them.

The next time you go to the grocery store, see if they have one of those "self-serve checkout" lines.

Don't bother with the "coin star", because they charge you up to 10% to count your money.

Those machines at the self-serve checkout line will take pennies, if you're buying something that you need anyway. Just make sure that the person behind you in line can see that you have a big bag of pennies, so she can get into another line.
Reply:Of course they will! Hehe...it's a bank. No matter how awkward or time consuming it may be for them, by law they have to.

It'd be the same as someone coming in a store and wanting to see everything out of a display case...or being a waiter and being asked a hundred times to go get something different for your table.

For a banker...sometimes someone brings in 1,000 pennies to be cashed in. Haha
Reply:They even have machines you can dump them in and it counts the change for you. It gives you a receipt you take it to the teller and she gives you your money or deposits it in your account. I am not sure which banks all do it but it is simple and easy!

If you don't mind paying a small fee some grocery stores now have the same machine but they do charge a small amount!
Reply:If it's a big bank and they have a coin machine right there on site, then yes, they will. Most banks, however, will ask that you roll all your coins before they accept them.

Banks give out the coin wrappers for free, you know. All you have to do is go in and ask for some. Or if you can't get to the bank, they sell the wrappers at places like Wal-Mart.
Reply:Each bank has it's own policy regarding large amounts of change. Some will require change to be rolled, some will mechanically count it for you. There are also public vendors such as "Coin Star" found in groceries and shopping centers that will count it for you.
Reply:erm maybe, if they can be bothered. or go to sanidsburys, they have a coin convertor machine, it ciunts your coins and gives you a recipt to redeem at the tills for discount, or cash. but it does charge like a pound i think :S
Reply:They have machines they can use to count it. They'll just put it through the machine, though it could take a while. You might want to call them first to find out what time of day would be best and so they know to expect you.
Reply:No, i'm pretty sure you are going to have to roll the pennies. Its because they weigh them with the wrapper on %26amp; everything to make sure that there is the correct amount of pennies in the roll. Sorry =/
Reply:no way-just go and buy some penney wrappers or go to this coin counter at tops/coinstar and it will count them 4 u and give u the money BUT THEY TAKE 10 CENT OUT OF EVERY

DOLLER

or

u could just call the bank
Reply:Not the unwrapped pennies. You'll have to wrap them first. (Note: nowadays some food stores have machines which do it automatically for a very small fee - pennies, actually !)
Reply:most dont you can try the cash coin satation at any jewel osco
Reply:I don't know why they would'nt...but wow thats a lot of change!!!! I usually go to cub foods and trade in my change in their machine...they usually charge like $3-$10 I think.
Reply:You need to roll them and write your account on each one or go to a coin-star and pay the fee usually 10-15 percent.
Reply:Yes, but most will want it rolled. Check with your local bank for their policy on cashing in changes.
Reply:Probably, call your local bank to confirm or take them to a coinstar machine.
Reply:u probably need 2 make it out in dollars but they might take it... i would ask them first and if they don't take coins then u should convert them into dollars
Reply:They might make you roll them. But yes, they will take it somehow or another.
Reply:I once tried to deposit a large bag of coins in my bank. They asked me to roll them first.
Reply:depends on the bank

usually they will, but legally they don't have to
Reply:most bank have a automatic coin counter that will do it for you
Reply:Find a coinstar station.
Reply:Yes it is done.

How soon after the end of your service is the Americorps VISTA cash stipend paid?

I'm finishing my last week as an Americorps VISTA and chose the cash stipend instead of the education award. I'm having a hard time finding information on when exactly that payment will be made. Has anyone gone thru this themselves or know a former VISTA? Thanks!

When you cash a check does it matter which bank you go to?

I have a check I need to cash but its from Bank of America. Do I have to go to a Bank of America to cash it or does it even matter?

When you cash a check does it matter which bank you go to?
Yes it does.

If you have a bank account, you can cash it at your bank.

If you don't have a bank account of your own, you have to cash it at the bank it is written from.

Or you can cash it at one of those check cashing places that charge you a percentage to cash it for you.
Reply:If you have a bank account somewhere I would cash it there to avoid fees. Other than that, there are many check cashing places available from the local payday loans, to banks, to Walmart. I believe Walmart is the cheapest.
Reply:you can go to Bank of America or if you have your own checking account you can go to your financial institution and they will cash the check for you
Reply:If you want to cash it immediately, and without added fees, yes you should cash it at Bank of America.

Anybody applied for a free cash grant over the phone before and been approved?

And could give me the phone number? I'm in real need of a free personal cash grant. I need a new computer bad.

Anybody applied for a free cash grant over the phone before and been approved?
LOL, you are making a joke, "right"
Reply:No, but I know some one who was ripped off by a over-the-phone financial transaction though!! For a down payment of $350 she was supposed to get a loan for $2,000. She sent the money and called the number back only to find out that the number was disconnected. Needless to say she didn't get a loan and she also gave up her whole paycheck.

Moral of story - NEVER complete financial transactions such as loans, grants or anything of that nature over the phone.

You might be sorry.
Reply:These are a myth. There are no "free personal cash grants."
Reply:UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED. Grants are not given over the phone. You can't apply for grants over the phone. And most importantly, grants are not given for buying a new computer

The government is NOT in the business of giving away free money for the sake of giving away money. There are no grants for paying bills, no grants for paying off credit cards, no grants for getting out of debt and no grants for simply fattening your wallet.

Grants are free, but it means OBLIGATION. You will be obligated to do as the grant sets out to do. Grants have objectives, and your purpose must fit the objective of the grant.

For one, you have to write the grant application and the grant application is not a simple document - you have to explain how your purpose for applying for the grant fits well with the objectives set out by the grant.

There is a stringent review process through a committee. You will compete with other applicants for the grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved.

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

What is the best way (cash or Credit card) to purchase in london and paris?

Is it good paying with creadit card or cash when you make any purchase in europe? Where you exchange your american dollars into the local currency (london-paris)

What is the best way (cash or Credit card) to purchase in london and paris?
Traveller's checks are actually the best way. They have a fairly good exchange rate, not to mention replacement insurance.

Credit cards and ATMs levy heavy fees for overseas use and/or conversion fees, when they work right. (Fifteen years ago I got $20 Canadian out of an ATM in Canada only to come back home and see I was charged $20 US plus a lot of ATM fees. Surely that's been fixed, but I still would be very leery.)
Reply:Well Depends on your bank for the service charges. If you are at Wells Fargo I can promise u whatever the exchange rate, Plus what the ATM charges, and an extra $5. But Im with a Local Credit union and they just charged whatever the exchange rate was so wasn't to bad. Im also going to london and paris in 17 days. so I was lookin to see what people were going to leave on your page. Im going to just get out some cash before i leave and then if I go above and beyond that I'll take out from cash machines on my way. Or even use my Credit Card /Cash Card as often as possible. call your bank and see what kind of fee;s they will charge before you deceide on doing that route though! Good Luck and have fun in london n paris :D
Reply:I wouldn't exchange your US , I would take money out of the ATM, then pay.
Reply:a) generally the banks get a better rate on credit cards/ ATM then you will see at the 'tourist' cash exchanges, but---

b) check with your bank/credit card to see if they add a foreign transaction fee. This can really be steep on some cards. Credit Unions are good at not charging this.

c) You are going to need cash for little things, say %26lt;$20 / 20 euros or £20. But for other things, your credit card will probably get a better rate than cash.

d) if you are going to pay in cash, the ATM is probably a better option that taking over a bunch of cash and converting it when you get there.

Good luck.

How do I get to cash from EBIT or EBITDA?

Say I know my EBIT or EBITDA (your choice -- our enterprise software gives either easily). There are some things that I add and other things that get subtracted from this to get a close approximation of the change in cash position for the period. I don't remeber what those things are (college was a long time ago for me). Does anybody remember this? Thanks in advance.

The CORRECT answer is: We CAN'T know without knowing what COMPANY you work for. Even then, there is a 99% chance we would have to ask the SAME benefits person YOU will talk to on Monday.

At what point does my bank have to report deposits of cash?

I have a tenant who pays her rent in cash, I have accumilated $4,000, which I want to deposit into the bank, but I have heard that large amounts of cash are "suspicious", (due to drug traffic, money laundering, etc.), so deposits of cash above a certain amount are reported to some entity or other. What is the "safe" limit to avoid being "reported" to Big Brother? Does this vary from one state to another? I live in Texas.

At what point does my bank have to report deposits of cash?
The magic number is $10,000. And there's nothing wrong with depositing that much or more in cash. As long as you report the income and it's legit, the Feds really don't care. I gotta ask though, why would you have $4,000 in cash laying around the house and not earning interest? Very bad cash management and God forbid you get robbed.
Reply:They are required to report anything $10,000+. They may (and do) also report "structuring" - e.g. making lots of smaller deposits to avoid the reporting trigger. I'd deposit the money you have now for reasons that have nothing to do with reporting. And in any case, unless you're running a drug operation or something, what harm does it do to be "reported"?
Reply:Terribrooke said it all

one thing to add -

do not go into any bank and ask these questions even though you've done nothing wrong tellers are required by the government to report any suspicious activity b/c if they don't they themselves and the bank can be fined millions.
Reply:I know in the State of NY is anything over $10,000.00. Check with your bank they have to let you know.
Reply:If you deposit more than $10,000 in cash, the bank is required to fill out a Currency Transaction Report. There is also a Suspicious Activity Report that banks fill out. There is no specific amount on this report. If you have never deposited this much cash before, more than like your bank will fill out a SAR. You will have no idea if they fill it out or not. Also, most banks keep track of all cash transactions above $2000 or $3000 for their own records.

Also, if you break your money up and make several smaller deposits, that is called structuring (which is illegal.) Banks watch for this and will fill out a SAR for this as well. Your best bet is to deposit it all at once and start making monthly deposits when your tenant pays her rent.

This does not vary from state to state. It is a federal thing.

What is the differences between cash flow and profit?

I am an A level student and the past paper want me to distinguish between cash flow and profit. Help needed. Ty very much

What is the differences between cash flow and profit?
You need to take a basic accounting course, but here's a quick example. You buy something for $100, and sell it to me for $200, but I can't pay you until January. The $200 goes into "accounts receivable". On paper you have a $200 profit, but -$100 cash flow because I haven't paid you yet. In the next period, you don't buy or sell anything, but collect my $200. You have a profit of $0, but a positive cash flow of $200. In larger companies, the major differences are due to accounts receivable and accounts payable variations, as well as capital equipment and depreciation. If I spend $50,000 on a machine that I expect to to last 10 years (different assets can be depreciated over different time frames), the $50,000 is considered a capital expense, and is not part of the profit/loss statement, but certainly affects cash flow. In future periods, you deduct depreciation expense on that machine, decreasing profit with no future effect on cash flow.

Where can I find a copy of a single bowling alley's cash flow statement and balance sheet?
May be difficult to find online. Most small bowling alleys are independently owned. I doubt that they would put such financial information out there for all to see. What you may want to do is contact the owner / manager of small bowling alley in your area. While they may not want to give you exact dollars and cents of their operation, they may be able to give you enough generalizations so that you can complete your project.

Can I writeoff a home office that I use 40 hrs/week when I don't own the house but pay cash rent?

I live with a relative, but I use the home office (it's basically mine). Though I don't own the house, can I write this off for taxes? I pay $700 cash of rent monthly.

Can I writeoff a home office that I use 40 hrs/week when I don't own the house but pay cash rent?
Short answer ~ yes. Longer answer is the amount of square footage that you are "renting" at the rent value, based on a ratio calculation to the $ 700.00 is the amount used.

In other words . . . if 25% of the space you have is office then, $ 175.00 of the $ 700 per month is expensed to office rental.
Reply:If you meet all of the rules for claiming a home office deduction, then it doesn't matter whether you own the house or rent.

But part of your question raises a red flag - you say "it's basically mine" - not sure what you mean by the "basically". If that space is used for ANY other purpose than your work, then no it isn't eligible for a home office deduction.
Reply:I think you can at least show proof such as phone records etc
Reply:Only if it is used "regularly and exclusively for business", you can deduct a fraction of the rent. For example, if the house has 5 rooms of equal size, 2 of which are used by the relative, and 3 of which are rented by you, and you use 1 of those "regularly and exclusively" for business, and the other 2 for other purposes, then you deduct 1/3 of the rent.
Reply:You can claim Home office deducation if you are renting, but it does not sound like you will meet the 100% use rule. The room has to be used 100% if the time for your business.

I have seen the IRS not allow the Home Office deduction because there were christmas decorations in the closet. Go to www.irs.gov and look at Publication 17, there is some basic information on the publication for deducting Home Office and the publication will refer you to other publications if you have additional questions.

2. Do you get receipts for your cash rent?

Just go to an ATM.

If your card has a label like "Cirrus" or "Maestro" then most machines here in AUstralia will accept it.
Reply:Find a cash machine that is on the same network as your bank (ie: Cirrus, etc.). You should be able to withdraw cash from it.
Reply:if you have visa or mastercard on your bank card, use an ATM, otherwise go to any bank and theu should be able to advise you.

You can use the ATM card in most Australian ATMs if your bank is part of the international Cirrus system (most are). I withdrew cash from my Australian account in Canada a few months ago.

Alternatively, if you can find a secure computer for interney banking you should be able to transfer funds into you credit card account and withdraw cash that way.

If all else fails, ring your bank in Scotland. They will be able to transfer cash somewhere that you can collect it.

Can I refinance a loan with another bank to the original amount if I need extra cash?

I have a loan that is paid on diligently every month. It is secured by a cd of the original loan amount. I would like to refinance this loan to the amount of the original security, take the cash, and keep my original monthly payment

Can I refinance a loan with another bank to the original amount if I need extra cash?
I don't see how you could because I would think the new bank would need to have the CD in their bank before they give you the secured loan. Obviously, you can't put the CD in another bank because it is being used as security for the original loan. Talk to you bank where the loan and CD is about refinancing.
Reply:You can but it's up to each bank to decide... if you are talking about a car for example they likely will not because there isn't enough value in it to cover the risk of you defaulting on your payment. If you are talking about an investment loan or a mortgage that has security for the amount you want then they will bend over backwards for your business.
Reply:You could do it if your current financier agrees to get the loan restructured. Talk to them about this.

I received a 1099- misc tax statement from Worldwinner. I am wondering if I am able to deduct the cash entry fees associatied with my losses. Worldwinner, from what I understand, is not noted to be lottery or gambling. Thanks

Worldwinner 1099-misc- Is there any way to itemize deductions of cash entry fees for worldwinner?
I'm in the same boat. I checked it out and apparantly if you want to deduct your losses, you have to fill out a Schedule C like you are a business and deduct your losses as business expenses. Seems silly but that's the way I was told to do it.
Reply:Oh, right, games of chance and you can win money. This is income and your "losses" are worthless to you.

Where to put cash in these turbulent markets?

So they say to stay out of the stock markets with volatility at all time highs. Subprime has infected everything from mortgage brokers to investment banks, down to the local county bank. Where can one protect their cash in times where you don't even know which financial institution is the next to go under? The FDIC insures up to $100K per bank, but it's not feasible to move money into many different banks. Should I buy something to ensure the safety of my cash (ie T-bills, gold, etc.)? My money is with Citibank, who probably won't go under, but I would still like to reduce my risk during these times if possible. There must be others who sold homes at the peak and are sitting with a few hundred K in cash somewhere. What are you doing to ensure you don't lose it to your bank going under?

Where to put cash in these turbulent markets?
If you would like to truly reduce your risk, the safest thing to do would be to open up single CD's at different banks. It appears that you are much more conservative in that regard, so I would advise spending the leg work to set up those accounts with the various local banks in your area to get the most protection.

There aren't a lot of financial institutions "going under" as you say. It is true that the subprime market has pinched liquidity and forced a lot of companies out of business, but these our companies that were mostly speculative in that they were borrowing money to run their organizations and couldn't support the monthly nut to begin with. A bank that is not involved in the subprime market will still be affected, but with minimal risk of "going under".
Reply:I have the same worries, I will watch the answers to see if anyone has a solution to this debackle......What if many banks went broke as in 1929...do you really think the FDIC would have enough money to pay all depositers? I recall my that father telling me when I was a youngster he got nothing for his bank accounts. Is this "black Thursday" all over again or "can you lend me a dime" or will next year bring "happy days are here again" by the newly elected Democrats?
Reply:I shouldn't even answer because I don't really know since I don't deal in dollar figures that high, lol, but I would think you would want to have it spread out into a few safe places from bonds, to t-bills, to mutual funds, some large cap stocks like coke and pepsi and so forth, but NOT in just pure cash in a bank. With or without turbulent markets as we have now, there are better things to do than just pure cash IMO. I think mutual funds are fairly safe, I know the two I have haven't dropped hardly at all in these past few weeks, but I would sit down with an advisor who really knows what he's talking about, at Smith Barney or some similiar place.
Reply:If your money is in an FDIC insured account with Citibank you can't get much safer. Don't confuse Citi's stock share price sell off with fundamental problems indicating the bank may fail. They are large enough and diversified enough to weather the storm.

For you to loose your money Citi would have to fail, and FDIC would have to fail. If that happens it would mean such a drastic financial collapse that no financial institution would be safe.

I think the real question should be, Do you want to stay with investments that offer 100% safety of principal, or put some of your money into an investment that provides a protection against inflation. It sounds like this isn't the right time for you to enter the stock market. Or real estate. But you should start deciding on the stocks you like now. Then when you do want to make those investments you will be ready.

What would the taxes be if you won a $40,000 cash prize?

What would the taxes be if you won a $40,000 cash prize in a contest?

What would the taxes be if you won a $40,000 cash prize?
Income tax is withheld at a flat 25% rate from certain kinds of gambling winnings.

Gambling winnings of more than $5,000 from the following sources are subject to income tax withholding.

Any sweepstakes, wagering pool, or lottery.

Any other wager if the proceeds are at least 300 times the amount of the bet.

It does not matter whether your winnings are paid in cash, in property, or as an annuity. Winnings not paid in cash are taken into account at their fair market value.

Exception. Gambling winnings from bingo, keno, and slot machines are generally not subject to income tax withholding. However, you may need to provide the payer with a social security number to avoid withholding. See Backup withholding on gambling winnings, on this page. If you receive gambling winnings not subject to withholding, you may need to pay estimated tax.

If you do not pay enough tax through withholding or estimated tax, you may be subject to a penalty.

Form W-2G. If a payer withholds income tax from your gambling winnings, you should receive a Form W-2G, Certain Gambling Winnings, showing the amount you won and the amount withheld.

Report the tax withheld on Form 1040, line 64.
Reply:depends on your other income that year and what your state tax rate is - could be anywhere from 10% to 40% or more in taxes
Reply:14,000
Reply:might depend on the circumstances ...

if you had to appear on a program or show in order to win, this is probably self-employment income and goes on Schedule C to form 1040. Self-employment taxes may apply in addition to income taxes.

{Example: contestants on TV quiz shows and similar entertainment venues, whether the show actually airs or not, are performers and this would be self-employment income.}

if you were, in essence, gambling, the income goes on line 21, Other Income, on form 1040. see instructions on page 24 for form 1040.

without knowing your circumstances and other income, etc. the amount of the taxes due can not be estimated.

How can I figure out how much of an investment property to buy in order to produce a positive cash flow?

Is there a software program or an equation to figure out how much down payment to put on a property, given the amount of rent income anticipated, minus all the expenses (taxes, upgrade, etc.) to produce at least a balanced or even a positive cash flow?

How can I figure out how much of an investment property to buy in order to produce a positive cash flow?
1) Find out what the property costs. Figure out how much you need to put down. Find out what the loan payment (principal %26amp; interest) will be on the balance - use a financial calculator. Figure out your total monthly cost by adding payments for property tax, homeowner's insurance, HOA fees, and management fees.

2) Figure out how much rent you can get for the property. Now make an allowance for vacancies, subtract your total monthly cost, and this is will be your cash flow. Keep in mind that even if you have a positive cash flow, after depreciation you may have a deductible tax loss.

There's no way to simplify the math - you've got to do the calculations for each property to determine whether or not it'll work. Good luck.
Reply:There are a bunch of free calculators online at http://www.fivestarsmortgage.com/mortgag...

Now is a really good time to buy investment properties. Perhaps the best buyers market I've ever seen.

How can I cash out from my credit card? Can I just go to an ATM and cash out?

I have never used my credit card for cash. But the bank says I can cash out certain amout. I just want to know how.

How can I cash out from my credit card? Can I just go to an ATM and cash out?
Yes, you can cash out from your credit card through any ATM member bank. Just simply insert your card, presss and follow instruction related to withdrawing cash and you can get cash right away..

But take note that withdrawing cash from your credit card has higher interest compared to any other transaction or purchases.

So, withdraw cash strictly for emergency purposes only to refrain from paying so high interest.
Reply:Don't do it....you pay a huge amount of interest on that. Look at your credit card...you will see the small print on that. Plus, most credit cards only let you have a limit and if you go over that limit you pay fees.
Reply:Yes, if the ATM accepts your type of card (i.e cirrus), and you have a PIN#
Reply:um you shouldnt, dont use money that you dont have you little jerk
Reply:You will probably have to pay a high rate of interest for the cashing. You can do it in the emergency situation as long as you remember to cash back immediately when you can. I did it in Europe when I needed cash for some shops that didn't accept credit card.
Reply:When you got your credit card it came with a pin. They usually mail it after you get your card. You just go to the ATM and use your pin to take out the $$$$.
Reply:You have to know your PIN, which is asked when you insert the credit card in for cash. Simply put: you don't know it--tuff nubbies: you get NO cash.

Call your credit card service for a PIN. And DO be careful: people behind or nearby you CAN, with great skill, see and remember your PIN: a way they use to snag YOUR cash.
Reply:Yes most atm's will allow a cash withdraw on a cc.

I believe they ask for you cash pin if you have made one with the acc.
Reply:you should be able to withdraw money just like a debit card, but you will need a pin number
Reply:U can do that but tthe bank will charge you an extra 5% (not sure how much your bank will charge u, it depends on which country u r from, please refer your credit card agreement)

Is it possible to cash a US check outside the USA?

I would like to know if it is possible to cash a US check if I am outside the USA? Does any one know?

Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to cash a US check outside the USA?
If you go to the American Express office in a foreign capital, and you have an American Express card account, they might cash a personal check.
Reply:you could use a traveller's check
Reply:The bank where you have your account will probably take it for collect, of course that takes 15 days and will deposit not dollars but the equivalent in the currency of that country. Another choice is to go to a money exchange and try to get them to buy the check. Sometimes they will and sometimes not. In either case make sure it gets cashed before three months from the date it was issued because then you start getting refusals.

Of course it all depends on where you are.

Sometimes you can even call the bank in USA and ask them for advice.

Luck
Reply:I had the same problem, a few years back. I lived in Japan, and a relative sent me a check for Christmas, (smart, right?). Anyhow, I'm thinking that maybe you could go to a bank with an American presence (citibank, american express) and they would probably cash it for a hefty fee.

But, what I ended up doing was just endorsing the checks (for deposit only) and I mailed them back to my bank account in the US. You don't say what foreign country you are in. Japan was pretty trustworthy, so i didn't feel to weird about mailing the check back.

Hope this helps you

What is the best cash-back program for credit card purchases available?

I don't want airline miles, just cashback. I don't mind doubling the point (i.e. Discover card) but I'm curious if there is something better out there.

Can you recommend a card with a REALLY GOOD cash back program for purchases?

Thanks.

What is the best cash-back program for credit card purchases available?
Well, the *best* card depends on how much you spend in various categories (like restaurants, gas, groceries, etc.) because different cards pay different cash back percentages in different categories. The analysis can get quite complicated.

However, there is a free calculator tool at http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/ that makes it easy. You just plug in how much you spend per month total (and, if you want, in categories) and it'll tell you how much you can expect to earn in cash back from each of the cards. It'll also tell you the best mix of 2 cards, 3 cards, etc. for your spending profile and how much more you can earn for managing those 2 cards, 3 cards, etc.

For example, for my spending, it recommends the Citi Driver's Edge (tough to beat its 6% back on gas, grocery, and drug stores) as the single best card. If I'm interested in managing more than one card, it recommends the Citi Professional (3% back at restaurants and other spending) and the Fidelity Signature Visa (1.5% back on all other spending).

For your spending profile, its calculations may identify other cards as being optimal.

Where can I cash a personal check on a Sunday?

I babysat a friend of my family's kid and I asked if I could be paid in cash, since she would be paying me today, and I want to be able to go christmas shopping tomorrow. She wrote me a check anyway - but said Kroger would cash it. If Kroger wont, is there anywhere else I can go to cash a personal check on a Sunday?

Where can I cash a personal check on a Sunday?
Have you considered the Check Cashing Store yet?

They might be able to cash your personal check for you there, who knows?

I just hope they're open on Sundays!

If not, you might have to wait until Monday, which will be Christmas Eve, and go to your bank, if they're open on Christmas Eve, of course!

Can't you do your Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve?

Most stores are still open on that day.

Good luck to you and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

P.S. Which city do you live in?
Reply:Are there any stores in your area who know you personally? They'd probably be the best bet.

Most places are not going to cash a third party check for someone they don't know.

If you have any friends with bank accounts (who trust you), they can deposit the check into their account via an ATM (regulations require that their bank give them immediate credit for up to $100 of an item deposited through an ATM). They can then withdraw up to that $100 for you.

(I'm assuming that your check is for less than $100).

STAY AWAY from check cashing places. They'll rip you off with VERY high fees!!

Hope this helps!!
Reply:Kroger won't cash a 2 party check (not many places will). Now, if the bank she uses has an "in-store" branch, you may be able to get it cashed there. That could be what she's talking about.

Look up the bank on the internet and find out if there are any in-store branches that are open on Sunday. Otherwise, you may have to wait until Monday.
Reply:that place by that thing where that girl was you
Reply:Goto ant supermarket and by a small item and you can pay with the check.
Reply:a payday loan store will cash it, but the fees are high...

How much spending cash do I need for two people in Cancun?

We'll be flying in friday and leaving monday afternoon. The hotel and flight package is $1430. I'll have about $500 cash left. Will we make it on that? How much does that translate into pesos?

How much spending cash do I need for two people in Cancun?
You should be fine. Expect a $20 dollar ride from the airport to your hotel, and be judicious with your cash. The taxi guys will be very agressive with you once you clear customs, be sure that you pay for your trip inside (counters on your right as you leave from baggage claim), each is as good as the next. When you get outside, don't let anyone grab your bag. There are guys just waiting to walk your bag to the cab from that door, all of 20 feet, and they'll expect a tip.

If you are staying at an all-inclusive resort, you'll be golden. Just try to eat your meals on property. If not, check with your concierge for budget meal options.

Make sure you keep enough cash for the return trip to the airport!

Translates roughly 10-1, or 5000 pesos.

I got a check from party poker because of all the accounts that closed out. How do I cash it now?

The check was $92 and change and I went to my bank to cash it and they said since the check is foreign, the fees surpass the amount of the actual check. The amount is in dollars by the way too. What else can I do with this wasted $92 check? Can I go anywhere else?

Frame it, hang it on the wall, and chalk it up to a lesson-learned.

And stop gambling online. It's bad for you.

Can I get cash from an insurance company rather than fixing the damage to my car?

My neighbor hit my car, but I need the cash more than I need the dent repaired. Is it acceptable for me to ask for the money instead of the repair? How do I go about this? Thanks

Can I get cash from an insurance company rather than fixing the damage to my car?
Yes you can, just tell the insurance to cut you the check for the estimate that you will provide for them.
Reply:they will send you a check,,,most of the time,,your option to take it to the estimate,,you can usually just ask for the check.
Reply:Usually the insurance company will just give you the check in the amount of the estimate, after consulting with an adjuster and the body shop. You can then do whatever you want with the money. It is definitely not fraud, despite one person's claim.
Reply:Your neighbor's insurance company will write you a check for the lowest estimated repair cost. If you choose to keep the cash and not repair the dent, that's entirely up to you.
Reply:It depends - if the car has a lien, a lot of times the check is issued to both parties to have the car fixed and protect the lender too.
Reply:You first need to report the accident to your insurance company, assuming you have collision insurance.

Also, be aware of any deductibles.

A claims adjuster will make out an estimate.

Some insurance companies require you to go to an approved auto repair shop, which then bills your insurance company.

You can propose to settle the claim at an amount that is less the claims adjuster's estimate, which the insurance company will probably go for.

Note, however, that the insurance company will want to know the circumstances of how your car was damaged. If you lie, you just committed insurance fraud. If you are truthful, the insurance company might go after your neighbor.
Reply:Unfortunately it is up to the insurance company (at least here in Ontario) as to how they will handle the claim. You can certain voice your opinion as to how you want to settle the claim, but they'll always find the cheapest way to settle.

Depending on how much damage was done, plus the deductible you have on your policy, plus whether your insurance premiums will increase because of your claim, you may decide not to bother getting the insurance company involved in the first place.
Reply:yes just tell the insurance company you will take the money they give you to fix the car and get it done your self and they will give you a check and you can do what ever you want to do with it
Reply:Take it to a body shop and see if you can get one of the owners or workers or someone there to claim that the car is unfixable and have them salvage it. The insurance company gives you money for the car, usually the depreciated value, then you buy the car back from where ever they send it to.

Or, tell your neighbor to just give you cash and you'll forget the whole thing.
Reply:Once you provide (2 or 3) estimates to the other party's insurance company, the insurance company should send you a check for the lowest estimate. They may even come out, look at your car, and write a check then and there (Allstate does this). Of course, you sign a form stating that they will not owe you any more money. So, unless they ask you to go to a shop to fix it, you should just end up with the money anyway. The law then allows you to do as you (legally) please with the money.
Reply:Yes (assuming you have clear title to the car). Just tell the adjuster to make the check out to you only. That's all there is to it.
Reply:All they care about is that you get a quote (or quotes) from body shops they approve of...get them comfortable with the amount of the check they will write. They don't care is you fix it or not, they just want to make sure that the fair value of the repair is all they are paying for.

Gonna take the cash and put a big bet on the Superbowl?
Reply:If you have legit insurance they will drop you for the request and think you are trying to cheat them. If your car is damaged and you don't get it fixed they will not want to cover you for future body damage. You'll claim it in your next accident again. You may be sincere, but this is what insurance fraud is. Do not be naive about what your are asking. when my car was totaled, i asked could i keep my car. they said if you want to keep it, we would only give you 50% of the payout and would not insure the car. my car was flooded and totaled.
Reply:Just tell the insurance company that is paying. Negotiate the amount, get quotes, etc. Once it's all ready, tell the insurance to send you a check, you will take care of it.

You are in the driver's seat, it's your car and you aren't at fault.
Reply:I think that would be fraud.
