What is the best cash-back program for credit card purchases available?

I don't want airline miles, just cashback. I don't mind doubling the point (i.e. Discover card) but I'm curious if there is something better out there.

Can you recommend a card with a REALLY GOOD cash back program for purchases?

Thanks.

Well, the *best* card depends on how much you spend in various categories (like restaurants, gas, groceries, etc.) because different cards pay different cash back percentages in different categories. The analysis can get quite complicated.

However, there is a free calculator tool at http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/ that makes it easy. You just plug in how much you spend per month total (and, if you want, in categories) and it'll tell you how much you can expect to earn in cash back from each of the cards. It'll also tell you the best mix of 2 cards, 3 cards, etc. for your spending profile and how much more you can earn for managing those 2 cards, 3 cards, etc.

For example, for my spending, it recommends the Citi Driver's Edge (tough to beat its 6% back on gas, grocery, and drug stores) as the single best card. If I'm interested in managing more than one card, it recommends the Citi Professional (3% back at restaurants and other spending) and the Fidelity Signature Visa (1.5% back on all other spending).

For your spending profile, its calculations may identify other cards as being optimal.
