Is it illlegal in michigan for gas stations to charge different prices for cash and credit?

i heard on the radio it was illegal then i heard from a different caller it wasnt illegal. i was under the impression that places of business sign a contract with credit card companies saying they have to treat credit customers like cash customers. where can i find the answer?

The credit card company agreements state that no preferential treatment for one form of payment over another is allowed, EXCEPT for gasoline sales.

Must be an interesting story (or law) that drives that exception.
Reply:Absolutely not they can charge whatever they want for the products and services they sell, besides it cost them more every time that someone uses a credit card for purchase. The only thing that you can do is go elsewhere.
Reply:that is my understanding too. spinning it a different way is not a loophole no one would have thought of.

try google, or call the 800 number on visa, mastercard, discover, amex, etc. and ask. let me know via email what you find out.
Reply:They can't charge extra for credit cards, but they can offer a discount for cash.

Same thing, really, just spun a different way.
Reply:it's not illegal and it's popping up all over michigan.
